Responsible tourism: Tuscany self guided walking tour in Italy

The Tuscany region has opted to put research, innovation and sustainable development at the core of its regional development strategy. This region welcomes a lot of tourists every year and knows an important cultural heritage.

Our travel agency will involve actions for the promotion and production of sustainable energy as well as including actions geared to energy saving. Also, this priority will involve promoting biodiversity and protecting nature will also be major actions. In addition, this priority includes preventing natural risks and protecting and enhancing the region's natural heritage.

Making full use of local resources and sustainable development of the territory is one of our priorities. This priority will make it possible to implement actions to make full use of the region's local resources both in the urban/metropolitan context and in areas with difficult geographic or natural features. In the urban and metropolitan areas the actions will form part of integrated plans for sustainable development, supported by a strategy for enhancing and generally promoting the area in question. In this context, it is also planned to create social facilities where they prove particularly necessary. A major action under this priority will be the exploitation of the region's natural and cultural resources with a view to promoting sustainable forms of tourism.
Our clients will stay in a guesthouse within the medieval walls of Monteriggioni. The additional stay tax we pay is used by the local authority and tourist office to renovate Montereggioni Castle.

Last but not least, as hikers by passion, we have a strong ethic about respecting the places we go to and their environment, either for business or personally (e.g: not leaving any rubbish behind us during a day walk or using reusable water containers), and we encourage our guests to act responsibly while traveling.

During 6 days you will experience the real heart of Tuscany in this truly unique trip, partly following the famous “Via Francigena”, an ancient pilgrim route from Canterbury to Rome.

This holiday is based on the discovery of the wonderful Tuscany’s landscapes and the sharing with the local population. The area is fully protected and walking tours help to educate visitors to the fragile life within the parks. Traditional crops such as chestnut and spelt form the backbone of many local recipes and much of the produce is the result of ancient traditions of rearing livestock and growing produce on a small scale.

To design this walking holiday, we have personally been on ground and have met the local people we deal with, from the local hotel owners, not to forget the taxi driver who will transfer your luggage daily. Also, you will taste local restaurants which produce fabulous pizzas, pasta and Tuscan specialities, drinking a local wine. Here all the products, meats and fish are cultivated in the region by local producers.
