How this holiday makes a difference

UK office
It all starts at home so we have first worked to reduce our carbon footprint in our UK offices. Through energy conservation measures and recycling policies in place, we are proud to be actively reducing the waste produced and our impact on the environment. We support various projects all over the world to try and give something back to the places we visit.

Leaders & local suppliers
As a self-guided trip you will be pedalling under your own steam and at your own pace. You will not be part of a group so the impact of your visit on the landscape and communities you pass will be absolutely minimal. Our local operator works with local suppliers and hoteliers to ensure that we support the communities we visit, maximising the benefit to them and also our enjoyment of the region. We will stay in characterful, locally run hotels and the route notes will often give you hints and tips of local restaurants you can try, giving you a taste of the local cuisine while helping to support these establishments. Moreover, we encourage you to journey by train to minimise your carbon footprint.

Activity
Our trips have minimal environmental impact, particularly as you will be providing much of the power yourself! Many trips venture into remote locations rarely visited by tourists, helping to support and develop traditional communities.

Story of the holiday provider

The product manager who put together the cycling holidays for this company was a true pioneer - he cycled all 7 continents, including virtually all of Australia, and obtained special permission to traverse the Antarctica. His enthusiasm was infectious; there are now more cycling racks at this company’s office than car parking spaces. Your guides won’t follow stringent itineraries thus offering you greater flexibility. If you’re on a bicycle you can escape the crowds, access remote areas, and get closer to the country you’re in as opposed to seeing it from behind the windows of a sealed coach.

Cycling holiday in Spain

Reviewed 10 Apr 2005 by Chris Povah4 star rating

1. What was the most memorable or exciting part of your holiday?

The most memorable part of the holiday was the environment of Andalucia itself. The main thing that contributed to the success of the trip was the group leader, Shaun Allan, who I cannot recommend highly enough.

2. What tips would you give other travellers booking this holiday?

The cycling was just the right side of challenging but I would warn other travellers to make sure they can cope - a couple within our group struggled.

3. Did you feel that your holiday benefited local people, and minimized impacts on the environment?

The group did spend money locally on food, drink etc and I would guess the environmental impact was minimal.

4. Any other comments?

Overall I would rate the holiday as ****, although Shaun Allan was *****!

Chris travelled with this company but on a slightly different cycling holiday in Spain.

Holiday Reviews

We invite every traveller who books a holiday via us to send in a review. Because we don't run the holidays they're completely independent and unedited... remember to read between the lines though, as two people on the same holiday can have different views!
