Responsible tourism

Responsible tourism: Yoga & wellness holiday in Granada, Spain

Environment

We will be recycling as much waste as possible and using organic waste to fertilise our vegetable garden with any excess being donated to a local farm. We will also be offering walking tours in the local national park and all of our guides will be fully licensed and so educate our clients on the protection of wildlife.

We will also be running ‘Wild Yoga’ classes to help bring our clients closure to nature, and obviously we will be leaving nothing but footprints on these excursions.

We will also be offering guided tours of the Alhambra Palace and Albayzin (World Heritage Site) these tours will educate our guests on the Moorish and Christian influences of the city.

We have also partnered with a local farm and will be offering our guests the chance not just to learn but to actually take part in traditional Spanish farming activities, such as producing olive oil, and wine and cheese making.

Community

Our Aim is that 100% of the staff we employ will be from the local area of Granada. We have already employed a local Chef, retreat Co-ordinator and Head of Yoga who all are all from Granada. Our mission is to use the retreat has a positive influence on the local community by providing jobs and extra revenue. This is important to us and we hope to use our business as a tool to improve the lives of locals in Granada, and will aim to keep as much revenue as possible within the local community.

We will also be donating a percentage of our gross profit to UNESCO as we feel that the work they do around the world is very important and also the Albayzin district of Granada is a world heritage site so Granada will see direct benefits from these donations.

We will also be using local suppliers to provide all of our services, and will be working with local farms to ensure that we use local and seasonal goods in our meals.

1. What was the most memorable or exciting part of your holiday?

The villa, nestled at the base of the Alhambra palace, was beautiful, in a gorgeous rustic way. Gardens, pool and eating outdoors under the shelter of the grape vine - bliss!

2. What tips would you give other travellers booking this holiday?

Do it! The Samyama yoga retreat was fun. I didn't want to spend a week in
meditative silence so this option was perfect. Lots of tapas, wine, exploring,
adventure and shopping.

Definitely. The local guides who looked after us were brilliant. All the food was
locally grown and delicious.
