Responsible tourism: Learn Italian & gastronomy tour in Tuscany, Italy
We encourage our clients to learn more about the cultures, traditions and way of life of the local people as well as explore and respect their surrounding environment. When out on tour we encourage learning about the country we are travelling in, the local culture of the people we work with and the areas we pass through.
We only organise small group travel in an attempt to better integrate into the local environment. Our orientation walking tour means we avoid using vehicles around town, and the choice of locations for the tastings and practical cookery sessions are all within walking distance, thus minimising our carbon footprint and helping to avoid congestion in this beautiful walled city. The day trip to Florence is by train.
The cooking sessions only use locally sourced and grown ingredients, which reduces the negative environmental impact of importing food and contributes to the maintenance of Tuscan farms and small holdings who provide excellent food and wine direct from the field to the table.
All our specialist guides are local people and they are treated and paid fairly. Where possible, food is purchased locally and we encourage cooking with local products.
We organise and promote socially and culturally aware group travel, and strongly believe that our trips provide a unique and authentic way to be involved with local people when travelling. Our trips worldwide are organised through a wide network of local representatives, guides, teachers, travel and accommodation providers, all of whom facilitate getting to know the local scene beyond the mainstream tourist trails.
By staying in local homes in the traditional heart of Lucca, we are able to actively contribute to the local economy. We enable interaction with local people through this type of accommodation and also the cultural activities and visits included in the itinerary thus enabling our clients to meet and get to know people from the area.
By operating locally, we are able to actively contribute to the local economy. We actively seek out and prefer to work only with with locally owned/managed schools and local homestay hosts or local family run accommodation providers in Lucca, thus ensuring that as much as possible is paid into local pockets. This is also the only way to really ensure that the cultural experience is as authentic as possible and that our clients are genuinely involved in the local community, albeit for a relatively short period of time.
By using locally grown products for our cookery sessions, we contribute to the maintenance of Tuscan farms and small holdings who provide excellent food and wine direct from the field to the table. Olive oils, salamis, wines, herbs and other ingredients are all purchased from local suppliers.
