Responsible tourism: Walking holiday in Krygyzstan, the heart of the Tien Shan
We are passionate about the preservation of the natural environment, and so is our local partner in Kyrgyzstan. Our local staff are trained to ensure that they leave the environment as pristine as they found it with every group, taking rubbish away with them to be recycled where possible and otherwise disposed of properly. The trek takes in areas of outstanding natural beauty, as well as national parks such as the lake in Issyk Kul. By bringing tourism to the area which focusses on Kyrgyzstanís natural heritage, we are giving a financial value to the area and giving the local people yet more reasons and incentives to protect their natural environment, protecting the environment rather than damaging it through agriculture and other uses to make a living. Walking tours are one of the most environmentally friendly forms of travel today, with much of the travel conducted on foot rather than by mechanised transport. We also source all food locally where possible, reducing the carbon footprint of the tour so you can enjoy yourself safe in the knowledge that your holiday is not negatively affecting the environment!
This tour gets you as under the skin of Kyrgyzstanís culture as possible, whilst ensuring that we do not negatively impact the local communities that we visit. You will get the opportunity to experience and learn about Kyrgyz culture, trying a variety of foods such as Kyrgyz, Dungan, Uyghur and Russian whilst staying with local families for meals where you can interact with the locals and learn about their culture and way of life, as well as the challenges facing them. We use local guides and porters throughout your trek. This not only increases the opportunity for positive cultural exchange, it also contributes to the local economy. We recommend that if our guests wish to buy souvenirs and handicrafts during their time with us, that they do so in local markets and from local artisans, ensuring that the money remains local to the people that make these traditional crafts rather than going out of the area to large companies in the cities. Guests also will get the opportunity to experience the Kyrgyz tradition of eagle hunting, meeting a real hunter and his bird. Our local agent employs local people throughout their company, and also support three childrenís orphanages in Kyrgyzstan, with $1 per day, per passenger going to these orphanages.
