Both we and our local partners in Turkey are passionate about conserving the environment. Our local partner in Antalya is a founding member of the Adras Tourism Association, which aims to promote sustainable tourism in the local region. The association has long been involved in successfully lobbying for re-planting of trees lost to forest fires and are currently working on a project to produce walking and cycling trail maps of the area. Our local office also has an agreement with the local hotels to ensure that they protect the turtles that reside in the bay. The canyon used for your gorge walking is under the management of a company that is legally obliged to keep the gorge safe, accessible and litter-free. This trip has a particularly low carbon footprint, as many of the activities involve using man power rather than vehicles, such as walking, kayaking and rock climbing. Where vehicular transport is necessary, we have designed the journeys to minimise time, distance and fuel consumption.
Both ourselves and our local agent are committed to giving back to the communities that we visit on our tours. The guides used on the tours are employed from the local communities, adding significant value with their in-depth knowledge of the areas history, flora, fauna and local culture. Our local guides are key to being able to facilitate contact with the local people during walks and excursions, such as being invited by a local shepherd or farmer to join them in a drink of tea. The food provided on this tour is sourced locally, and your activities and equipment are also provided by local suppliers. For example, the water sports incorporated into this trip are operated by two brothers from the village. We also try to include local restaurants in the itinerary, such as the family-run, traditional fish farm and restaurant an excellent example of sustainable fish farming. Not only does all of this put money back into the local economy and provide numerous employment opportunities, it also ensures that you have the best, most authentic holiday possible.
