Responsible tourism: Turkey self guided walking holiday, along the Lycian Way
Sustainable tourism and the conservative use of energy on our tours is extremely important to both ourselves and our local agents. On this tour along the stunning Turkish coastline, water from the mountains is used for supplying the swimming pool, doing laundry and washing dishes, and gardening. Solar energy is used for the provision of electricity and hot water.
All food is home grown in the gardens and all waste is recycled wherever possible. We ensure that paper, glass, organic waste and plastics are kept to be 1reused and we ask clients not to leave litter, instead, taking any rubbish back to the guest house to be recycled.
This tour uses minimal transportation, with much of the distances travelled on foot, this not only provides you with a wonderful experience and opportunity to really get an in depth impression of the country, it also helps to protect the beautiful environment here.
This self-guided walking tour running along Turkey’s beautiful coastline supports local communities through the employment of local villagers and farmers from the area as cooks, drivers and gardeners, among other roles. This means that your holiday is directly benefitting the local economy through the provision of wages and tips. By employing local people, our clients are also provided with the opportunity to interact with the local community and learn about their rich culture.
Each year, a donation is made by our ground agent to the Kate Clow Culture Roots Society. This brilliant organisation was established in July 2012 in order to protect Turkey’s existing routes, and it currently works to develop and maintain the Lycian Way as well as other walking routes across Turkey, employing local people and ensuring that travellers are able to continue to walk along safe and clean paths. They see the walking routes as a means of encouraging cultural understanding, and we agree!
