Responsible tourism: Family activity holiday in Gozo, Malta
Both ourselves and our local colleagues in Gozo are committed to environmentally responsible travel. Gozo is a small island, and it remains much quieter and more traditional than neighbouring Malta. Travelling around the island is cheap, easy and fun, and this tour aims to showcase the landscapes and culture of this beautiful and charming island as they really are, without altering them to accommodate tourism. During your visits and activities alike, the routes and locations used are painstakingly chosen in order to avoid traffic and mainstream tourism, not only reducing to ensure that our clients have a more authentic, enjoyable experience, but also the reduced use of vehicular transport means that your carbon footprint is smaller too. This tour has a strict ‘pack it in, pack it out’ policy on all of the activities, so that littering is avoided and all rubbish can be taken to be recycled in a nearby village.
We and our local agents are committed to fostering positive relations between the travel industry and local communities, by giving back to the communities that we visit and contributing to the local economies through the use of local hotels and suppliers. This means that your money goes back to the local Gozitan communities that you are visiting. The tour seeks to showcase the local traditions and skills of the Gozitan community, rather than visiting overcrowded sites, in order to give our guests a more authentic experience of this wonderful island, as well as allowing positive cultural exchange between our guests and the local people. We visit traditional local people and businesses working in agriculture, food production and traditional crafts, and even play ‘bocci’ with the local experts. Visitors have the opportunity to buy souvenirs and food from these local businesses, rather than expensive souvenir shops which import their goods. This further supports the local economy and provides employment for the local people.
