Both we and our local ground agents are committed to preserving the environment in Finland and wherever possible, we minimise the negative impacts that our tours may have on the areas we visit during the trip. We ensure that rubbish is collected and recycled where possible, towels are changed on request rather than every day, and meals are meticulously planned in order to avoid food wastage. We minimise energy use through the use of energy-saving light bulbs and using environmentally friendly snow mobiles where required, although we recommend activities that rely more heavily on man- or husky- power than mechanical, with dog sledding and show shoeing activities both available during this tour. This tour provides guests with an opportunity to experience the great outdoors of this beautiful area and be spellbound by the mystical Northern Lights – having witnessed this stunning phenomenon, you will have an entirely new appreciation of the natural world.
On this tour, we try to include the use of locally owned businesses wherever possible, from the food suppliers to activity suppliers and hotels. This not only means that your trip is contributing directly to the local economy and to improving the lives of those residing in the area, but it means that you will have a higher chance of meeting local people and learning from them about their lives, their culture and their traditions. The small, traditional guesthouse where you will stay during this tour is a former Sami village school and has been designed to offer a taste of the local Lappish way of living. Local people are employed at the guesthouse and food is sourced locally. During your stay, you will get the opportunity to learn about local life, spend time with local people and participate in positive cultural exchange, ensuring that you not only experience the stunning scenery and mystical nature of the Northern Lights, but you learn about other cultures which may broaden your horizons further.
