The Cape Town teaching and surfing program aims to give an opportunity to local township orphans and children to engage in sports, learn the art of surfing and gain environmental awareness. In the context of the valuable natural resource South Africa possesses, this environmental education is particularly important as South Africa develops its tourism industry, with the impact that this can have on protected coastal areas and beaches. The psychical nature of the program also seeks to promote healthy and active lifestyles, whilst working to mitigate the impact of crime, drugs, and alcohol culture found in many townships.
