Responsible tourism: Cambodia to Vietnam tour via The Mekong
We are committed to environmentally friendly practices whilst travelling in Vietnam and Cambodia. We promote the use of small boutique hotels where possible with good energy management and waste disposal practices.
In this itinerary you will travel from Phnom Penh to the Vietnamese border on a local boat and then onwards by car, through the Mekong Delta to Saigon. You will be supporting the local community and businesses whilst at the same time saving on the environmental impact that flying between the two countries.
Both Vietnam and Cambodia have an array of hotels situated in buildings of historical importance. Whether that be an old Governor's house, royal residence or even a building where an important meeting or influential event took place. We actively encourage our clients to stay in these sorts of hotels in the hope that the income they receive will go in to maintaining these historic buildings.
We commit to exclusively using suppliers that are local companies who recruit locally, offer good working conditions and pay fair wages that are at least a quarter higher than the national average.
We encourage guests to fully explore the country, gain a genuine appreciation of it and its people by using authentic activities, local guides and local hotels. This itinerary in particular breaks from the usual path, travelling across the border by land, enabling the visitor to see genuine rural life and dispersing the tourist income beyond Vietnam and Cambodia’s main tourist spots.
We ensure our guests are well informed travellers through the provision of comprehensive pre-departure information on tipping, begging, cultural norms etc., as well as an in-country welcome pack with information on major sites, activities, local eating, shopping and basic language. In addition we train our guides to help people discover the real Cambodia and encourage our clients to interact with locals and help to make them feel part of the community.
