Responsible tourism: Thailand highlights holiday
During this itinerary you will mainly be travelling in low-carbon ways, mainly by shared minibus transfer, a few ferries and also on a sleeper train. During the visit to Khao Sok the clients will be with guides who are trained by our local office and they advise them how to protect the flora and fauna in this area and how to travel with the least amount of impact to the surrounding environment. On top of this, we also provide customers with a 'How to be a responsible traveller' document before travel. Our local office partners with with animal welfare and conservation organisations to raise awareness of animal welfare best practice with customers, suppliers and governments in the destinations in which they work so we know that the guides are well trained and informed.
Our local office in Thailand takes protecting the environment very seriously and has put many measures in place to be responsible in the way that they operate. A while ago they installed a water purifier into their office instead of buying big bottles of water and this now saves 10,000 litres of drinking water a year, as well as reducing the plastic wastage. They also now recycle all of their waste, they offset all of their flight emissions for staff travel, use recyclable batteries, use environmentally friendly printing paper and eco-labelled cleaning products.
During this itinerary we use guides employed from the local area, helping to provide jobs in all of the areas that we visit. We also use minibus transfers for most of our transport in this itinerary and this also secures jobs for many drivers. We also try and use small family-run accommodation wherever possible during this trip as opposed to using big chain hotels. We also offer regular chances to stop at small shops, stands and stalls during this itinerary where you can buy snacks and drinks from the locals. This happens on the way to and from Khao Sok and also during our River Kwai trip.
Our local partners have their Travelife accreditation and means that all of their employees are protected by the employment laws that they have in place. This includes schemes for maternity leave and they also provide medical insurance for employees. They also have rigorous checks to make sure there is no forced labour or child labour which happens in any of the destinations that we visit during this itinerary.
