China tour - Panorama

Small group adventure holiday
Typically you will be sharing your experiences with between 4-20 like minded travellers (depending on the trip, operator and how many others are booked on the trip) and you'll have a group leader with you. Whether you are travelling alone or with friends its good value, and a great way to meet new people! While itineraries are pre-planned there is some flexibility and you'll have plenty of privacy. This trip will appeal to travellers of all ages who enjoy meeting new people as well as seeing new places.

How this holiday makes a difference

Our tours offer a great opportunity to experience China through the eyes of a local. Near Yangshuo you visit a local family in a village house, where you enjoy lunch as a guest of the family. This brings money into the local economy and also encourages cross-cultural interaction. Through a question and answer session, you learn how the local people live and gain an appreciation of their daily routines. These tours also include a cruise down the Yangtze River, where you learn about the ecological issues surrounding the world's third longest river. Later you visit the Giant Panda Breeding Centre in Chengdu, where we support an important project to save this endangered species. A key component of the tour is your local Tour Leader.

Tourism is a relatively new concept in China and we have implemented training programs for all its leaders, covering a variety of issues, from environmental awareness to First Aid. This not only assists in the conduct of a tour but also provides leaders with important life skills.

China tour - Panorama

It is hard to say where to begin. The trip through China was certainly memorable if for nothing else - the food. It was nothing like what we expected being boiled or steamed all the time became a bit tiresome after a while. The scenery around Yang Shuo with the stone mountains was certainly spectacular and the raft trip with bicycles on the back was something my wife and I really enjoyed.

The terracotta warriors were all I had expected and more. I just wish I had beaten down the sellers of the miniature statues a little more as many on the trip bought them a lot less. I console myself by saying they needed the money but in reality they were still making a handsome profit on the lower amounts paid. I thought the trip up the 3 gorges was good but 2 days instead of 3 would have been enough.

I thought the people were really like a waking giant coming out of the poverty imposed through communism. They are so willing to talk to you especially when they are not trying to sell you something and especially when we travelled on the trains. The trains were a bit of a culture shock at first but after a while we settled in to the routine and really enjoyed it. The local people are really starting to feel the benefit of tourism and are embracing it with both hands. As yet they are not immune to trying to overcharge but with proper controls these practices can be stopped.
