Responsible tourism

Responsible tourism: Kerala holidays, wildlife & waterways

Responsible travel plays a key role in our company’s vision and we are promoting this concept among our customers. Recycling is very important in South India to ensure that waterways and fragile ecosystems remain litter free. Our local partners in South India have adopted the concept of recycling in their offices and are now also sponsoring recycling bins to local government.

During this itinerary our clients will stay close to nature and visit not one, but two national parks that are incredibly important to Tamil Nadu and Kerala regions, and will learn about the ongoing conservation projects and the history of both wildlife sanctuaries. Our local guides will help our customers to learn more about the wildlife and or impact on it.

We start the responsible journey from our office in Brighton by providing our team with a healthy locally-sourced daily lunch and recycling food-waste. Our office is virtually paperless, and the paper that we do use comes from the company we recycle through, creating a closed loop.

In India we try to ensure we support the local community as much as we can and encourage our customers to interact more with the locals and learn their customs from them. We offer smaller-scale authentic accommodation as opposed to chain hotels, and also homestays where possible so that travellers could have an opportunity to immerse into the local culture and enjoy the authenticity of their accommodation in India and learn about the local culture and traditions from their friendly hosts. This also benefits local communities, especially in more remote and rural areas, bringing more tourists to the area and generating income for the local people.

While on this tour, our customers can take part in a cooking demonstration and learn how to cook traditional Keralan dishes which ensures that some of the money generated from their visit goes into local pockets.

We use local guides and drivers during all our trips and ensure our local partners pay their staff at least a living wage that is equal to or above the legal minimum.
