Responsible tourism: Cuba luxury holiday, Havana to Trinidad
On this tour guests are taken to off the beaten track locations within Cuba. We have selected these locations for the fact that they are unspoilt and untouched, and our aim is to leave them with no trace of our presence so that they can continue to be enjoyed by other tourists and local communities. For example, to visit the large network of caves in Vinales we travel responsibly via boat and on foot, to reduce the need for development of other infrastructure. Our tour guides are very conscious to discourage littering and damage of natural artefacts and they provide advice to guests on these issues whenever possible.
This tour is run on a private basis meaning that it does not involve the usual impacts on the environment that are associated with large group tours. Transfers are provided by using existing taxi companies, to ensure that there is no demand for increased numbers of vehicles on the road (this being a particularly pertinent problem in Cuba). When selecting recommended hotels, we opt for those with the best environmental policies, focused on preserving water, recycling waste and limiting electricity usage.
All excursions on this tour are led by a local guide who has grown up in the nearby community and has a good knowledge of local businesses and community members. Our guides will always provide advice on the best places to shop, eat and drink so that you can ensure your money is directly benefiting the communities you are visiting.
On most of our excursions we factor in meals at carefully selected local restaurants where guests are provided an authentic experience, with food cooked from fresh, local ingredients, to traditional Cuban recipes. We also take guests to well-preserved historical and cultural sites. The fee from the entrance to these sites helps to support restoration efforts so that they can continue to be enjoyed by tourists and locals alike.
This tour is designed to delve deeply into the cultural, political and industrial history of Cuba so that tourists gain a deep understanding and appreciation for the country and its people.
