Responsible tourism: Spain walking holiday, Almeria coastal way
Both ourselves and our local partner in the Iberian Peninsula are committed to providing environmentally sensitive tours within the stunning Almeria area. Walking tours are some of the most environmentally friendly forms of travel, as most of the travelling is done on foot rather than relying on carbon-guzzling mechanised transport. Any travel necessary by vehicle is kept to a minimum and is undertaken by local suppliers, ensuring that transport has not had to travel excessive distances to reach you.
All of the hotels and restaurants that we use and recommend throughout the walking tour ensure that their waste is recycled wherever possible and use energy saving light bulbs, source their food locally, reducing their carbon footprint at every opportunity. As you wind your way along the walk, you will travel through the stunning ‘Parque Natural Cabo de Gata-Nijar’, Andalucía’s largest coastal protected area with spectacular geological features and wild, isolated landscapes.
We are passionate about ensuring that our tours have positive impacts on the local communities that you visit during your walking trek, and so is our local partner in Andalucia. We use only locally owned and run guesthouses throughout the tour, and recommend local restaurants too, such as the Restaurante Samanbai in Rodalquilar. In fact, all of our suppliers are local where possible, with transportation sourced from local drivers too.
By using local suppliers, and providing you with the opportunity to stay in locally owned hotels and eat in locally owned restaurants, you will have more opportunity to get to know the local people, participating in positive cultural exchange and also giving back to the local community through a financial contribution to the local economy and the provision of employment, which would not be possible if tourism was not in this area. By meeting and interacting with the local people, you will get a far more immersive experience on your trek and really get a taste of the way of life here.
