Responsible tourism: Rhine Valley short break, wine and world heritage
Why are the vintners along the Middle Rhine so valuable for our nature?
The vintners along the Middle Rhine are the gardeners of the UNESCO world heritage site Upper Middle Rhine Valley. By maintaining the steep slopes and the walls of the vineyards, rare animals and plants find their ideal terroir. By preserving and caring for the vineyards’ walls, the whole scenery is positively influenced. The danger of erosions and landslides is minimized. Taking care of the paths through the vineyards also creates nicely kept hiking paths with spectacular views.
Seeped in history, this trip to the UNESCO designated Rhineland is a fantastic opportunity to learn about wine making- a very old practiced tradition here! The local vineyards supply all the grapes for wine making here, ensuring tradition is kept alive and for making the freshest wine.
We encourage travellers to take public transport as much as possible around the Rhineland. An extensive network of trains and buses are readily available to our guests. At our hotels, we practice environmentally friendly methods to keep the Rhineland area beautiful and available for future generations.
We make sure to source local produce and products in order to contribute to the local economy in the region and also minimize the environmental impact of food travel as much as possible.
By organising several events and activities, money is raised in order to support charitable associations with the proceeds. One example is the Universal Children’s Day with special activities for families with children at the different sights.
Local visitors from the region around Rhine and Moselle very much support the preservation of the historical and natural sights. The majority of employees working at the masterpieces are based in the region.
