South America overland expedition, Andino

Small group adventure holiday
Whether you are travelling alone or with friends/family its good value, and a great way to meet new people! While itineraries are pre-planned there is some flexibility and you'll have plenty of privacy. This trip will appeal to travellers of all ages who enjoy meeting new people as well as seeing new places.

How this holiday makes a difference

The Andino Overland Expedition offers a variety of excursions and experiences to cater to all the needs of clients in regard to history, nature, culture and the mystery of this vast continent.

Accessing the rainforest via motorised canoe in the Ecuadorian Amazon basin is one excursion not to be missed. These canoes are non - invasive and offer an ideal way of reaching the heart of the Amazon jungle without leaving a damaging impression on the physical environment.

Local guides will ensure you gain the most out of your Amazon experience as you drift through this magnificent ecosystem. Furthermore, through joining a tour which employs local operators, you will be doing your bit to ensure money generated in the region is absorbed straight back into the community.

Carbon Offset Scheme:

Working in partnership with international conservation charity World Land Trust in our continuing quest to establish and maintain our position as a leader in responsible travel, we are offering a new way for our travellers to make a real contribution to the health of the planet - the Carbon Offset Scheme.

World Land Trust is a not-for-profit, international conservation organisation that takes direct action to save rainforest and other biologically important lands. Since it was founded in 1989, it has helped local conservation organisations to purchase and protect over 375,000 acres of threatened habitats in Asia, Europe and Central and South America. There are many organisations offering carbon offsetting services, however we believe that World Land Trust has the most scientifically sound approach and socially responsible philosophy.

When you book your tour with us you will be able to offset a portion of your share of the carbon emissions created while you are on your tour. We will calculate what clients have donated, and donate an additional 10% of the total to World Land Trust. So the more you contribute, the more we can give! We will also absorb all processing fees associated with these payments, so there’s no administration cost to World Land Trust and they can spend the money donated where it counts - protecting threatened habitats worldwide.

What Will Happen to the Contributions?

World Land Trust will fund projects on your behalf through their Carbon Balanced programme, which reduces the amount of damage carbon emissions are doing to the environment. We will not profit from your carbon offsetting donations. Your contributions will be made directly to World Land Trust and we will not receive any direct financial benefit or commission from these donations.

1. What was the most memorable or exciting part of your holiday?

Uyuni Salt Flats as it was amazing and of course Machu Pichu... despite climbing and barely seeing it from the Sun Gate, the clouds eventually lifted and we were able to get some gorgeous photos one of which I have attached. I also loved the town of Cuzco and Punta Sal in Peru.

2. What tips would you give other travellers booking this holiday?

On this trip you would meet loads of travellers which I thought was good as you were able to share experiences and learn about people and their life choices!

The most important thing to pack on a trip like this is your sense of HUMOR! With that even the most difficult situation will not be stressful. Secondly, ensure and check visa requirements.... as I ended up having to leave the tour to get a visa even though I checked with the embassy in the UK!

3. Did you feel that your holiday benefited local people, and minimized impacts on the environment?

Local people definitely benefited as we used local guides all along our trails. As most of these countries are not into recycling I cannot commit on how much we could have reduced the environmental impact.

4. Finally, how would you rate your holiday overall?

I rate this holiday as being excellent! I loved the fact that we were split into groups and had different tasks like cooking to do. This allowed us to learn new ways of doing things and helped fostered camaraderie among the group! Will definitely recommend to friends!

Thanks so much for your recommendation!
