For this tour we have carefully selected the Costa Verde hotel as our chosen accommodation, due to the fact that Costa Verde’s commitment to the environment and sustainability goes far beyond the efforts of many other accommodations in the region. They recycle, they do not use improper pesticides, they promote sustainable business practices and processes in the hotel and its restaurants and they manage their private jungle reserve and its flora and fauna with the most up to date sustainable methods.
Costa Verde plant 10,000 plants and trees every year on their property, creating a diverse ecosystem for the wildlife of the Manuel Antonio jungle. The hotel’s own nurseries propagate thousands of new plants and trees each and every year.
The hotel makes most of its furniture, lighting fixtures and building materials in its own wood shop, harvesting naturally downed trees from the region whenever possible, and recycling wood waste as mulch or burning it in the Barbecue or in the Wood Fired Pizza ovens.
In addition to its environmental credentials, Costa Verde hotel also has a strong commitment to supporting local communities in the Manuel Antonio region. The hotel gift shop sells products made by local artisans to help bring economic benefit to the community. The business is involved with several local charities – it funds a scholarship programme for local children, it assists with a local beach clean-up programme and it is a supporter of The Code of Conduct Group for the protection of children from sexual exploitation in travel and tourism.
We encourage visitors to learn a few simple words and phrases of Spanish before their visit. Even the simplest words and phrases will go a long way in allowing them to interact with the local people. And, no matter how little they know, it's always appreciated.
For the activities included in this tour, we work directly with local operators, supporting the local economy. Nutrition is an important part of this tour and we work together with the hotel to emphasise the use of locally produced ingredients in all meals.
