Responsible tourism: Cycling holiday in Lake Garda & Como, Italy
Cycling through lakes Como and Garda area gives a wonderful feeling. Largely because of how clean the area is. People try very hard every day to preserve the hills and valleys of this amazing place and we are glad that we can visit this region of Italy.
Keeping roads and nature in shape requires clearing areas of any kind of waste. While cycling, we obviously need to have some snacks on road, but we try to have fruits and local cold cuts, like fresh oranges, figs and prosciutto. Along the way we create close to zero waste and encourage everyone to do the same!
Beautiful lakes that we are visiting are on the foothills of the Alps, and as we know, global warming is threatening to melt away the stunning snowy peaks that we see along the way. By offering our cycling tours we really promote cycling as a way of transport, so there would be less CO2 emissions in the region and world all together.
Regions around the Alps can be pretty busy but we need to realize how damaging it can be to the environment. We hope to offer our tours many years in the future and we really hope that the nature will be cared for!
Even though Italy is one of our most popular tour destinations, we still try to stay at a variety of accommodations. But there are some staples that we just refuse to not visit in some of our trips. For example local agroturismo hotel in Bormio we visit every time, sometimes even if we decide not to stay there. We have made friends with the friendly staff and others who keep this wonderful guesthouse in shape. It is a truly amazing wooden guesthouse that gives you a true feeling of staying in a mountain village. All their interior is made from well preserved wooden materials and they practice a very fair business with guests. Hotels restaurant is next to a farm, where guests can see how the cheese is made and milk is sourced. We believe that this a great standard that has been set up in this area and we will be sure to return there and recommend the wonderful services to our other guests.
Italy is known for the great minds of the renaissance era and rich history in Roman times. Along our way we will visit many historic places, for example Malcesine - 700 hundred year old castle.
We always try to have spare time for our guests to visit every castle or museum they wish while cycling through these villages. Not to mention Bellagio - considered one of the most beautiful towns near lake Como. Paying a visit to all these local places may result in our guests getting tired in the evening so refuelling is essential. When our rides for the day are done there are only one question - pizza or pasta? We strive to select only the best local small places for our dinner - so we could be the only guests in a small italian caffe or diner. The real country's cuisine hides in narrow alleys and in hands of kind chefs - we will try to get to know this side of the Italy, and support local business while we are at it!
