Costa Rica volunteering holiday
How Costa Rica volunteering holiday makes a difference
Environment
Our environmental focused programs in Costa Rica operate in conjunction with a selection of organisations including; COTERC (The Canadian Organisation for Tropical Education and Rainforest Education), MINAE (Costa Rican National Parks Board), CCC (Caribbean Conservation Corporation), major universities in Costa Rica and various independent researchers. These programs therefore play a vital role in the development and management of long term wildlife conservation and community education programmes. Our 12 dedicated Costa Rica staff members have trained and assisted over 600 volunteers to achieve admirable and ongoing impacts: building and maintaining a new community center, providing English and environmental education to over 100 school children, and maintaining the largest and most consistent turtle conservation program in Costa Rica.
In addition all volunteers have the opportunity to support local communities by offering basic English lessons. The long-term aim is to provide community members with English language skills which in turn should increase the chances of working in sustainable tourism, an alternative to forestry and the poaching of turtles.
Community
Our first projects in Costa Rica were launched in partnership with the Costa Rican Ministry for the Environment back in 2005. We are supporting the communities we work with in Costa Rica for the long term.
We are providing the largest consistent workforce in this conservation area by conducting more research and community initiatives than any other organization working locally. We have partnered with the local community of Quepos to assist them in several key areas. We have a variety of community focused programs in this location aiming to provide the community with volunteer support to address financial and labour shortages in the educational system. Your presence as a volunteer on this program will ensure we meet our goals and effectively meet the needs of the community. The construction projects which you will undertake are of vital importance to the community as it will serve to create a more suitable learning environments for the children we support through our community focused programs
