In Volterra we stay for two nights in a converted monastery on the outskirts of the city rather than a large multinational hotel which helps to contribute to the upkeep of this historic building. Leaving behind the towns and cities we stay in a small Tuscan farmhouse (only ten bedrooms) owned by a local family. Although Tuscany is a well know tourist destination, the farmhouse is situated in a less developed area which is visited by far fewer tourists. The revenue generated by our visit is directed into the community from both the farmhouse (where all local produce is used to provide meals for the group) and at carefully chosen lunch stops during the day.
During the 5 days there are many opportunities for walking in the Maremma hills. For the majority of walks the group will be accompanied by our tour leader who takes active steps to ensure travellers behave in an environmentally responsible manner such as sticking to established trails, not leaving anything behind or removing any plants whilst hiking and walking through the parks.

We invite every traveller who books a holiday via us to send in a review. Because we don't run the holidays they're completely independent and unedited... remember to read between the lines though, as two people on the same holiday can have different views!
