Responsible tourism

Responsible tourism: Khmer heritage tour in Cambodia

This is a low-impact cultural tour designed to accommodate small groups and private travellers, not a seat-in-bus tour. Your itinerary will see you visit protected areas and regions of great natural beauty, as well as historic sites of interest in Phnom Penh and Siem Reap. Such regions of historical interest and natural beauty are in large part dependent on the revenues generated by tourism for their preservation, meaning your visit will play a small but real role in helping to sustain these areas.

When travelling in a developing country such as Cambodia, it is most important to be mindful of your water/electricity consumption, and to avoid wasting resources unnecessarily. We provide all travellers with guidelines on travelling green, paying particular attention to water use.

We employ local tour guides who will help you to travel responsibly through the fragile environments visited during your itinerary.

Carbon offsetting We provide a monthly donation to the Carbon Neutral fund to partially offset the emissions generated by our travel business.

We employ local tour guides who are mindful of Cambodian customs and traditions and will guide you on the proper decorum in each situation, particularly during temple visits, which are the focus of this itinerary, and during visits to politically-sensitive sites such as Tuol Sleng and the Khmer Rouge Killing Fields.

Many of the historical sites of interest visited during your tour - including, of course, Angkor Wat - are in part dependent on the revenue generated by tourism to survive, meaning your visit will play a small but real role in helping to sustain these areas of cultural and historical interest.

The money generated by your tour through entrance fees, nights spent at locally-owned or staffed accommodation, tour guide fees and your patronage of local shops and businesses will also help to support the communities you visit. For instance, during our Khmer Heritage itinerary, you'll have the chance to enjoy Khmer cuisine at the home of a Cambodian family in Phnom Penh.
