Responsible tourism: Tenerife dance retreat and Shamanic healing holiday
Manantial de Tara is a non-profit organization, created with the intention of developing an area in contact with nature, and the surrounding farmland which was created on sustainable principles and permaculture gardening.
The farm on which this project is developed on the island of Tenerife, in the municipality of Arafo, is an environment of high natural and landscape value, between the sea and the mountain.
Manantial de Tara has built the following natural buildings: - 3 yurts (mongolian style) made from renewable chestnut, cotton/polyester canvas cover, pure new wool insulation and metal parts (the door handle, hinges and flue supports) - 3 wooden bungalows - 1 wooden house - 2 caves made from mud and straw
In the middle of the property there is garden based on permaculture principles.
To design the space we have used the principles of Feng-Shui of the present time: - We promote the implementation of sustainable lifestyles, through educational programs and workshops that inspire and promote creativity while living in harmony with the cycles and respecting the Rights of Mother Earth.
- Related to this we have systems for obtaining energy from renewable sources, orchards based on the principles of permaculture, a system for collecting rainwater and natural water purification for subsequent reuse, and a dry toilet with equipment composting organic waste with worms.
Earth Charter We promote and support the initiative of the Earth Charter as an educational and ethical framework advocated to respect for life.
Culture of Peace We promote a Culture of Peace through meetings and events related to art, Science and Consciousness, encouraging the formation of networks of communication and exchange.
Evolution of consciousness We Create a space oriented to educational developments related to self-awareness of the physical and emotional, respect for others and for nature.
The retreat is a community and we offer a volunteering programme alongside our usual programme, allowing people with less income to spend on travel to also participate.
We are an association that has educational and social purposes and we like to share spaces, experiences and creative ideas. Participants of the retreat will have a great opportunity for one-to-one meeting with a team that is preserving Manantial de Tara and to form possible future collaborations. Part of the money gathered from this retreat will go to preserving this beautiful place.
Daily tasks for volunteers would consist of:
• taking care of organic gardens of vegetables and fruits • Landscaping, beautification and care of the place. • Help in cooking and cleaning • Construction and Maintenance
Local Crafts and Culture We employ local guides to take us on hikes through the preserved ecological area of Los Roques de Garcia (Teide volcano & forest national park ) and to Afur - Taganana. Supporting staff (organizers, promoters, guides...) are locals. We ensure fair working conditions for all workers engaged and all are given adequate support by our operations team and tour staff.
This journey was created as a collaboration between artists, healers, tour guides, accommodation providers and spiritual seekers. People that have history and experience in supporting many different community-led projects and events around the world, with the goal of ensuring that the money made from our traveling to a region goes directly to those most in need, in order to make a lasting difference in the local communities that we visit.
