Responsible tourism: Sierra Nevada canyoning and trekking holiday, Spain
Tourism and the travelling styles in Southern Spain have always been related more with casinos and big hotels in the coast, a luxurious type of tourism, than with nature. However, Andalusia counts with some of the most interesting and impressive landscapes of the country and it's a pity that a tourism connected with them is not being developed in opposition with the luxury of the beaches. Our commitment is to encourage people to discover this side of Andalusia at the time we enjoy activities such as canyoning and trekking.
The itinerary has been devised in a way that we reduce as much as possible road transportation and include hiking routes to connect between different points and villages. We try to bring people as close and connected as possible with the environment and the rural life of Alpujarras and Sierra Nevada.
As an example, our partners in Andalusia are part of the Europarc federation, which means they are officially certified in the conservation and sustainable development of the area's biodiversity.
As mentioned in the environment commitment, our contribution to the community here is remarkable as we connect profoundly with the rural life and rural communities of Andalusia, by staying in small family-owned hotels and visiting small towns of the Alpujarras and Sierra Nevada. For instance, it's worth mentioning our stay in this tour in a local "cortijo", a type of house that is being gradually lost and in lack of use. Our small contribution in this tour by staying in this one helps in preserving the cortijo and maintaining it in good state.
Our activity instructors and partners in Andalusia share our concerns on the needs to re-establish the identity of this area and bring and develop gradually a more sustainable type of tourism. We bring travellers close to the historical traditions of Andalusia, those that we find in villages and rural mountainous areas, such as the ham-drying rooms in this tour.
