Responsible tourism: Amazon eco lodge budget tour, Peru
This tour promotes environmental awareness and aims to educate on environmental issues especially concerning the Amazon Rainforest. In particular, this Amazon tour focuses on responsible contact with nature and understanding the challenges our environment faces today.
Travelers stay in an eco-lodge that is built in the traditional local style with local materials. The eco-lodge promotes a responsible use of water and uses alternative energy sources. The food that is served is locally sourced, mostly from the farm itself and the lodge therefore does not generate much waste. The little waste that is generated is taken to the city to be recycled. The farm also has its own water conservation project that allows the use of rainwater for the eco-lodge. Public transport is used when possible.
Visitors are strongly encouraged to follow guidelines that are sent to them before departure to make sure they don't leave a negative environmental footprint (for instance bring your own reusable water bottle) and they are given some more tips and instructions in the welcome presentation.
All our tours respect and promote the host communitiesí culture. Activities on all our tours focus on the traditions and local culture and reality of the visited communities and have an additional educational function. For instance, visitors can participate in workshops on traditional architecture or agriculture, handicrafts, local food and cooking habits, etc. The income that our and similar tours generate, encourages communities to conserve these traditions.
We aim to provide an authentic experience for tourists and a culturally sensitive, respectful encounter between tourists and hosts. Nothing is put into scene and people are not asked to pretend or act differently than they normally do. Tourists are informed about the particular culture and customs in the community they will visit before they arrive and they will be made aware of any rules of behavior they should respect. Part of the profits of our tours supports the social or environmental projects that were visited on the tour and that benefits the community as a whole.
