We have the privilege to guide people into a remote wilderness area and take our responsibility as environmental ambassadors very seriously. We are committed to operating in a way that has only a positive impact on both the bears and our environment. We strive to produce as much of our power from local renewable resources such as microhydro, solar, and wind power as possible.
All of the food we buy is organic, when available. That ranges from organic fruit and vegetables, to dairy, dry food and free range eggs. Purchasing organic food is not only great for our guests, it also encourages the local suppliers to stock organic food. Another important value we hold is to only serve wild fish. Farmed salmon is posing a significant threat to the salmon runs of the BC coast. All of the fish and shellfish we serve is either caught at the lodge, or caught wild locally.
Through his work in developing a Bear Guide Certification Program in British Columbia, owner Tom Rivest is helping to ensure the sustainability of all commercial bear-viewing operations by educating new guides. The program teaches the importance of natural history interpretation of the bears and their environment, as well as how to view in a way that does not impact the safety or health of the bears.
