The Urihi trip takes place in the Juma Lake about 100km from Manaus city.
The local community once suffering from extreme poverty and lack of economic alternative was asked by the land/lodge owners to cooperate in the conservation and maintenance of the area.In return local residents would remain living in the land and produce some of the items consumed at the lodge. Local residents are trained and given a chance to work closely with the lodge as guides or to assist guides and travellers during trekking in the forest.
This lodge has welcomed many of the ideas we requested to be implemented and/or developed, i.e.: A plan for a bird observatory and an animal rescue location is on its way. Together are insuring a sustainable source of income for the locals and developing a sense of care for their "home" while preserving the environment.

We invite every traveller who books a holiday via us to send in a review. Because we don't run the holidays they're completely independent and unedited... remember to read between the lines though, as two people on the same holiday can have different views!
