How this holiday makes a difference

We use an outstandingly professional local ground handling company based in Ulaanbator.

The majority of employees are Mongolian who are very proud of their rich and varied culture. They are firm believers in facilitating trips in and about Mongolia in a fashion that benefits them and the local communities that are visited without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs. Arising from this both the forms of travel and payments to facilitators are made fairly and responsibly.

The company believes in "Fair Travel Trading" and adheres to the principles of Green Globe 21 for which Nigel Gifford, OBE, FRGS and our founder, is the advisor on adventure travel, worldwide. As a company, we support a variety of charities that strive for better conditions for porters and trekking staff in the Indian sub continent and South America, and the protection of indigenous peoples in remote and fragile places such as rainforests and the sub polar regions. All our trips are operated and planned in line with PATA and Green Globe 21 principles, we expect our clients to be committed to sustainable tourism.

We offer you the chance to contribute to Climate Care, from £12 per person.

1. What was the most memorable or exciting part of your holiday?

There were several - going to visit the monastery and being shown around by the head monk. Seeing our 'ger' for the first time as it was so different to what I had been expecting. Having musicians visit and play for us in our ger. Sitting by the camp fire singing songs and riding in the pitch black on our first night out of Ulanbaatar. Riding amongst the vastness of the plains of Mongolia.

2. What tips would you give other travellers booking this holiday?

Have a real understanding of what you are doing. Be prepared that there is quite a lot of 'hanging around' on the first three days and perhaps ask to do more things during this period of time. Be prepared that there are tics.

3. Did you feel that your holiday benefited local people, and minimized impacts on the environment?

Yes.

4. Any other comments?

Three stars as although I have stories to tell my grandchildren there were things that were disappointing.

Day tour/Attraction Reviews

We invite every traveller who books a holiday via us to send in a review. Because we don't run the holidays they're completely independent and unedited... remember to read between the lines though, as two people on the same holiday can have different views!
