Family holiday to Vietnam

Small group family holiday
This is a 'small group family adventure' - typically you will join several other families and travel in a group of approx. 16 people. The trips are great value and a great way for you and your children to meet new people! While itineraries are pre-planned there is some flexibility and you'll have plenty of time to yourselves. Most adventure kids tend to be aged between 7 and 15, but some are younger (minimum age is usually 5) and some older (perhaps travelling as part of a larger family group). Please check with the operator to confirm the minimum age for this trip

How this holiday makes a difference

Recently we have recognised that many families would love to explore Vietnam our way, thus this trip was born. It provides a wonderful opportunity for families to discover the diverse, beautiful, fun and child-friendly land of Vietnam, while interacting with local people, and travelling in a responsible and culturally respectful way.

Your group leader and the local guides we use along the way will help to break down barriers in your interactions with local people. Vietnamese people love children, and as a family you will be whole-heartedly welcomed by the local people. In addition, we travel by some local transport, to facilitate and encourage interaction with local travellers.

In Hanoi, we see some traditional water puppetry, and learn some of the history of this charming multicultural city. In the beautiful World Heritage town of Hoi An we visit a local school, to allow some interaction with the local kids.

Your leader will explain the range of projects we support in Vietnam, and it may be possible to visit some of them in your spare time. At the end of our journey, travellers may donate any unwanted clothing, medicine and bandages, which are distributed to appropriate local charities.

Family holiday to Vietnam

Reviewed 05 Aug 2006 by Gill Holland4 star rating

The holiday we booked with you to Vietnam was everything I hoped it would be and more! Perfect for families as there was something of interest for everyone.

1. What was the most memorable or exciting part of your holiday?

Highlights included the water puppet show in Hanoi for my daughter, the overnight stay on the boat at Halong Bay for my son and for me it was the bicycle trip around the countryside of Hoi An. Not once on the trip did I hear "Are we there yet?" as the kids were kept entertained by our leader who was teaching them some Vietnamese!

2. What tips would you give other travellers booking this holiday?

Tips include making sure you have plenty of Dong as you can often get a better deal than if you are paying with US$. Also make sure when hiring a cyclo that you fix the price you are prepared to pay.

3. Did you feel that your holiday benefited local people, and minimized impacts on the environment?

I hope the trip benefited the local people as we did stay in local run hotels.

4. Any other comments?

I would rate the holiday **** and would certainly recommend it to others. Looking forward to my next adventure!

1. What was the most memorable or exciting part of your holiday?

Probably our motorbike tour in the countryside around Hue.

2. What tips would you give other travellers booking this holiday?

Only hitch was not being met at the airport on our arrival - the travel literature seemed to confirm we would be met and it was disappointing after travelling with 3 kids for over 18 hours to have to wait around for a driver who never appeared and then haggle with taxi drivers for our transfer into Hanoi- made worse by the fact when we arrived at our hotel , unloaded our luggage etc there was a note at reception from our guide saying the hotel was full and we consequently had to get another taxi to the alternative accommodation - we will try clarify this point with the operator but in future I will always check specifically despite what the literature says.

3. Did you feel that your holiday benefited local people, and minimized impacts on the environment?

Yes to benefiting locals - probably not to minimised impact on the environment.
