How this holiday makes a difference

We are taking part in the continuous CSR (corporate social responsibility) reporting process to permanently improve the sustainability of our work and lower the impact on the planet. We are licensed by TourCert 2010 – 2012.

We offer our Oceanic Fair Package to all our clients which they can book in addition to all our holiday programmes. By making a reasonable contribution, in addition to the price of the booked programme, they will receive an adoption of a dolphin or whale species by M.E.E.R e.V. (German NGO) for the duration of one year and they compensate via our partner atmosfair for the emission caused by their flight. In this way, they take over responsibility and contribute in a healthy way to the studies and protection of sea mammals and against global warming!

We consciously serve vegetarian meals during this sailing week and if possible use local food. Especially on this trip we provide plenty of information about the local environment and culture, for example on our website, in our newsletters and in the info folders which we put in every apartment giving insight into responsible behaviour towards dolphins and whales, problems related to whale-watching and environmental care (e.g. waste and water), nature protection, drinking water, news and innovative projects on the Canary Islands.

Adhering strictly to the whale watching regulations, we only do respectful Whale Watching with small groups and providing plenty of information to our guests onboard. To avoid stress for the marine mammals, we behave according to our principle that we are the guests and the animals are our hosts and they decide if they want closer contact to the boat. Respectful whale watching means to adapt to the particular situation and adjust our sailing manner to the animals’ behaviour. The information we gather during the sightings is shared with a non-profit conservation and research organization (M.E.E.R. e.V.) to support research and preservation.

Furthermore, our Whale Watching vessels serve as a research platform as OCEANO works together with the German NGO M.E.E.R. e.V. and supports their scientific work. The crew records each sighting of cetaceans and submits their information to a database which is used for research into the behaviour and protection of the animals.

We offer weekly information meetings and varying lectures as well as a permanent exhibition in our information centre to share our knowledge on cetaceans off La Gomera and their habitat, answer questions and show that encounters of humans and cetaceans can happen with consideration and respect.

With these measures we enhance the knowledge and awareness of our guests towards this beautiful island and its people, towards the enchanting cetaceans and their endangered habitat and give useful tips on how to contribute to preserve these treasures!

Holiday Reviews

We invite every traveller who books a holiday via us to send in a review. Because we don't run the holidays they're completely independent and unedited... remember to read between the lines though, as two people on the same holiday can have different views!
