Costa Rica honeymoon

Tailor made holiday
This trip can be tailormade to create a unique holiday for your individual requirements by travel experts with intimate knowledge of the destination. It is a more luxurious trip that will suit those who enjoy immersing themselves in new cultures and environments before relaxing in comfort in some of the best and most characterful local accommodation! Quality and value are the hallmark of these trips.

How this holiday makes a difference

Over twenty-seven percent of Costa Rica is designated as National Park, biological reserve, wildlife refuge or some other category of protected area. Most of the hotels and lodges we use in this itinerary are based within one of these designated areas and take their responsibilities towards the environment very seriously.

As a tailor-made operator we try wherever possible to use locally owned hotels, local guides and transport owned and operated by local people. All of the guides we use are trained to ensure that the guests understand the nature of the environment and minimise the impact that they may have.

Hotels with an emphasis on sustainability are also something we try to promote. By staying at Lapa Rios Ecolodge, guests support the conservation of the rainforest and provide direct employment and income to more than 45 families in the area. Among Lapa Rios’ Mission is their aim to protect and preserve 1000 acres of primary and secondary rain forest in the Lapa Rios private reserve and utilise tourism to acquire and protect endangered rain forest.

As a tour operator we have supported World Land Trust in their project to save tropical forests of the Osa Peninsular, a hot spot for biodiversity that was threatened by a major highway an inappropriate tourism development.

Costa Rica honeymoon

1. What was the most memorable or exciting part of your holiday?

Visiting Costa Rica, the country with no army, is undoubtedly an exciting and memorable highlight in itself... made even more special when escaping the grey December shadows of London for seventeen days of honeymoon bliss. But, the pristine primary rainforests of the Osa Pininsular and in particular the almost spiritual retreat that Luna Lodge offers was by far the highlight. The cacophony of jungle noise wakes most guests at 0600 and the activities (hiking, exploration, birdwatching, kayaking) take place begin soon after. The afternoons generally welcome periods of relaxation before snacks are served in the dining area at 6pm and a conch sounds the call the dinner at 7pm where the guests eat together, while sharing stories, from a bountiful, fresh, organic, home grown, home cooked buffet (menus are not used nor needed) before the electricity generator is turned off at 10pm and torches become a necessary. Luna Lodge is an outright sanctuary; whether you are young or old, thrill seeker or otherwise.

2. What tips would you give other travellers booking this holiday?

Costa Rica is a country that must be explored. Its small so extremely achievable and so diverse, to spend all your time on a beach would be a complete waste, as would not experiencing the diverse ecosystem on offer. From the sulphuric fumes of the Poas Volcano and natural beauty of La Paz Waterfalls to the humidity of Osa, the breathtaking views of Monteverdes Cloud Forest and the sprawling urbanity of San Jose.

3. Did you feel that your holiday benefited local people, and minimized impacts on the environment?

Our honeymoon benefited the Costa Ricans that we meet by sharing life experiences. The Costa Rican people are perhaps the friendliest on earth and with no ulterior motive, who are fiercely proud of their country and with good reason. And with a literacy rate of 95% and an inherent responsibility towards energy saving, recycling, conservation and preservation, to visit Costa Rica and impact their environment adversely is virtually impossible.

4. Finally, how would you rate your holiday overall?

Overall our honeymoon was the best holiday we have ever been on and the overall experience and country itself cannot be described adequately with words or photos. I would urge anyone to go to this beautiful country, the perfect place to combine relaxation with activity and feel completely relaxed outside of your comfort zone.
