Arctic Finland dogsledding week & Northern Lights

Small group adventure holiday
Typically you will be sharing your experiences with between 4-20 like minded travellers (depending on the trip, operator and how many others are booked on the trip) and you'll have a group leader with you. Whether you are travelling alone or with friends its good value, and a great way to meet new people! While itineraries are pre-planned there is some flexibility and you'll have plenty of privacy. This trip will appeal to travellers of all ages who enjoy meeting new people as well as seeing new places.

How this holiday makes a difference

UK office
It all starts at home so we have first worked to reduce our carbon footprint in our UK offices. Through energy conservation measures and recycling policies in place, we are proud to be actively reducing the waste produced and our impact on the environment. We support various projects all over the world to try and give something back to the places we visit.

Leaders & local supplier
Our local supplier aims to generate employment and revenue in the Muonio region by working closely with local communities. All food and resources are obtained locally and the accommodations used on this trip are built from materials of the area. The activity of dogsledding itself greatly reduces the carbon footprint of the area and the very limited use of cars for transfers helps to sustain the reputation of this area having the cleanest air in Europe – a fact that our local operator is proud to promote. In the wilderness cabins no electricity is used, relying totally on wood-burning stoves to provide heat.

Group size
We operate small group tours that have a low impact on the communities we visit and we always ensure our operations do not disrupt or lead to the displacement of local people. This allows us to stay in unique and characterful accommodation that would not have benefitted from tourism due to their limited size.

Activity
Our selection of alternative winter activities seeks to make the most of the natural environment in its pristine state, rather than changing it. Snowshoeing, cross-country skiing and dogsledding are best suited to remote wilderness areas and the development of these alternatives is key to the long-term survival of many wilderness communities.

1. What was the most memorable or exciting part of your holiday?

The most memorable part of the holiday was how beautiful and peaceful Finland was where we were staying and how peaceful and quiet the sled dogs were once they were working.

2. What tips would you give other travellers booking this holiday?

Tips for other travellers going on this holiday is to make sure you are reasonably fit before going, and you must be a dog lover.

3. Did you feel that your holiday benefited local people, and minimized impacts on the environment?

We were very back to nature and conserved energy within the cabins we stayed in. We used open fires to cook when we were out treking.

4. Any other comments?

The holiday was fantatstic a little disappointing because there was not enough snow to do all the things we should have done but the people were fabulous. 5* Simply the best holiday we have ever been on as a family.
