This trip will appeal to travellers of all ages who enjoy meeting new people as well as seeing new places.

How this holiday makes a difference

UK office:
It all starts at home so we have first worked to reduce our carbon footprint in our UK offices. Through energy conservation measures and recycling policies in place, we are proud to be actively reducing the waste produced and our impact on the environment. We support various projects all over the world to try and give something back to the places we visit.

Leaders & local suppliers:
We have an excellent long-term relationship with the local operator, Oliver Ensor. He leads all the weeks whilst his wife Elaine looks after the chalet and prepares delicious meals. They are aware of the importance of Responsible Tourism and try to use as much fresh local produce to create the meals served in the chalet as well as actively recycling waste. Allocated bins are used for guests to dispose of aluminium cans and glass bottles. Local restaurants and mountain huts are visited for snack and drink breaks throughout the week, benefitting the local community.

Group size:
We operate small group tours that have a low impact on the communities we visit and we always ensure our operations do not disrupt or lead to the displacement of local people. This allows us to stay in unique and characterful accommodation that would not have benefitted from tourism due to their limited size.

Activity:
Our selection of alternative winter activities seeks to make the most of the natural environment in its pristine state, rather than changing it. Snowshoeing, cross-country skiing and dogsledding are best suited to remote wilderness areas and the development of these alternatives is key to the long-term survival of many mountain communities.

Snowshoeing holiday in Chamonix

Reviewed 07 Jan 2008 by Gabriel Decio4 star rating

1. What was the most memorable or exciting part of your holiday?

The snowshoe walks on the Alps and the stay at Chalet Savoy were the highlights of this holiday. The walks took us to the top of the world, literally. They were invigorating and the scenery was stunning. Chalet Savoy felt like home for a week. The hosts, Oliver and Elaine, made it possible for the group to have the best time we could have while we stayed there.

2. What tips would you give other travellers booking this holiday?

Be fit and have the right equipment for 7-hour walks in the snow. Leave your angst behind and be ready to conquer peak after peak in each of the five walks.

3. Did you feel that your holiday benefited local people, and minimized impacts on the environment?

Yes, absolutely.

4. Finally, how would you rate your holiday overall?

Excellent.
