Slovenia snowshoeing holiday

Small group adventure holiday
Typically you will be sharing your experiences with between 4-20 like minded travellers (depending on the trip, operator and how many others are booked on the trip) and you'll have a group leader with you. Whether you are travelling alone or with friends its good value, and a great way to meet new people! While itineraries are pre-planned there is some flexibility and you'll have plenty of privacy. This trip will appeal to travellers of all ages who enjoy meeting new people as well as seeing new places.

How this holiday makes a difference

Environment:
We have at our offices worked to reduce our carbon footprint through a reduction of energy use and energy conservation measures. We also actively reduce the waste produced by having active reduction and recycling policies in place. We run annual staff workshops on Responsible Tourism. Global warming is a reality and to help you make a difference by reducing the carbon dioxide that is produced when you travel we offer a chance to carbon balance your flights. We encourage all our clients to do this and do so for all our staff travel. Go on do your bit!

Snowshoes are the perfect way to explore and enjoy the winter landscape while minimizing your impact. Snowshoers require no ski lifts and no groomed or maintained pistes, and their visit leaves no impact apart from tracks in the fresh snow. Snowshoers can search out the quieter corners of the mountains, where development and facilities are few. As this sport continues to develop, it will offer mountain communities alternative low impact forms of winter tourism.

For all but 1 night when we are in a mountain hut, our accommodation is located in the small village of Selo, near to the beautiful lakeside resort of Bled. Towels are only changed mid-week upon request and cleaning materials used are ecologically friendly where possible.

Community:
We employ qualified Slovenian leaders and use local restaurants, generating money for the local community.

Slovenia snowshoeing holiday

Reviewed 05 Jan 2010 by Lyndsey Clark4 star rating

1. What was the most memorable or exciting part of your holiday?

This was a fantastic week of snowshoeing and winter walking in the Pyrenees with a very good guide who judged all the walk routes and lengths perfectly for the ability and speed of the group as well as the changeable weather and conditions.

2. What tips would you give other travellers booking this holiday?

I'd highly recommend this holiday to anybody capable and interested in walking on hilly terrain for around 5hrs per day in varied conditions. I'd recommend anybody who hasn't done a lot of walking with a big daypack to get out in the British hills a bit before going to test all your kit (snowshoes put a lot of pressure on your backpack and boots particularly) and your body.

3. Did you feel that your holiday benefited local people, and minimized impacts on the environment?

Environmental impact of this trip was minimal and there was very little sign of stress to the footpaths and environment we visited.

4. Finally, how would you rate your holiday overall?

Overall this is a great break for people who like to walk.
