Travelling with a local operator
This holiday is operated by a company based in the holiday destination and they will be able to provide expert local knowledge. They will be able to tailor make your holiday to suit your requirements not only concerning the dates of travel but also typically the standard of accommodation, and thus price. It is rare for local operators to be able to help with the booking of your flights.

How this holiday makes a difference

Environment

Our Khao Sok tour goes into Khao Sok National Park and Chieow Laan Lake, giving our clients a chance to view first hand an ancient rainforest and some of the flora and fauna present within it.

Our pre-trip document given to travellers outlines ways to reduce the negative impact on the environment, including reducing water usage and minimising damage to flora and fauna. Travellers have the opportunity to meet the park rangers who take care of the area and our guides inform travellers about the impact of poaching of wildlife and flora within the park, and how the park rangers attempt to minimise this type of activity.

As all our trips visit Khao Sok National Park or Chieow Laan Lake, our clients have a first-hand opportunity to see nature and wildlife at its best. We encourage them to leave the rainforest as they found it, including carrying all rubbish out if on a trek and not trying to offer food to any wildlife encountered or leaving food behind in the jungle when they leave. This helps preserve the rainforest and it’s flora and fauna in all their splendour and glory.

Community

We do not offer large group travel. This provides for more intimate and direct interaction between the traveller and the local guides and people in the communities we visit and avoids ‘over-running’ the destinations we visit.

The accommodation we choose for our guests employ local people and our company utilises the services of operators who source their food and other equipment from local businesses.

In an endeavour to give something back to the communities we operate in, we attempt at all times to use the services of local guides and accommodation providers. We also purchase necessary goods and food from local businesses whenever possible and encourage our clients to do the same when travelling in Thailand. By choosing the small, local shop or restaurant over the larger ‘chain’ operations, you’ll help to keep money in the local community, create employment for local people and create a positive, reciprocal feeling between local communities and the travellers who visit them.

Our clients are encouraged to visit Khao Sok’s local Buddhist temple, where the current abbot is often available to chat with travellers about the local community, the role of the temple and monks as part of that community and to show people around the temple complex. If they wish, visitors can make a small donation to assist in the running of the temple. However, this is not expected and is up to the individual discretion of each person visiting.

Great. Really well organised, everything happened as advertised. The timing of everything was great, so there was time for relaxing/doing our own thing in between scheduled activities. Staff were really friendly and helpful, but not 'in your face'. (read full review)

It’s hard to pick out the best bits; the whole 3 days were fab. For me it was probably the scenery at Chieow Laan Lake which is without doubt the most beautiful place I have seen. The children loved swimming and canoeing in the lake.(read full review)

Waking up early to the sound of gibbons calling and looking out of the back door of our bamboo hut onto the limestone karst formations.
