How this holiday makes a difference

Our company was established to manage and conserve World Heritage rainforest. Its funding is derived from a style of tourism that respects the fragility, biodiversity and antiquity of the land. We adhere to the principles of ecotourism defined as responsible travel to natural areas that conserves the environment and sustains the well being of local and indigenous people.

We aim to present the exceptional values of the sacred heart of the Daintree to responsible tourists who aspire to a higher level of interpretation and in exclusive groups. In the development of our products, we aim to establish mutually supportive partnerships that foster a shared vision for conservation of the exceptional rainforest with financial benefits derived from high quality tourism.

The principal aim is to develop and conduct an ecologically sustainable and economically viable ecotourism business on the Land that will contribute financially to the management and conservation of this World Heritage Nature Refuge in the heart of the Daintree Rainforest. The rewards of participation, beyond the awe-inspiring yet humbling experience of the Daintree’s most magnificent rainforest, include the knowledge that payments contribute to the conservation objective.

1. What was the most memorable or exciting part of your holiday?

The tour operator offers the very best in ecotourism wildlife tours if you want to find out about the Daintree Rainforest and see some astonishing wildlife. We did the Wilderness Experience Package which was amazing, especially the walk with Pru who took us to some very special places. Also enjoyed the croc cruise, peaceful delicious lunch and dip in the waterhole to end the day. Pru is trying to protect the other waterhole we saw - a sacred birthing site for the local native Australians, the Kuku Yalangi, which unfortunately is being desecrated by tourists who haven't been told about its importance. We hope you will support her in trying to get its cultural importance recognised (the government have it listed for recreation!). We also did the night walk on another day which was fun.

2. What tips would you give other travellers booking this holiday?

It’s difficult to find sustainable accommodation north of the Daintree River (we didn't - our lodge didn't even recycle!) so may be greener to do the trip/tours from the comfort of Port Douglas or Mossman (the Cape Trib Connections bus is a fun way to get there from Cairns or Port Douglas and greener than driving yourself). The Daintree is the oldest rainforest in the world and if you want to have its treasures revealed this is the place to come to and the people to do it.

3. Did you feel that your holiday benefited local people, and minimized impacts on the environment?

The best holiday we've ever had, particularly the elements booked through responsibletravel.com - they were the highlights and we'll definitely be looking through your catalogues again.
