We are a local Indochina operator, and by booking through our company you can be rest assured that the profits are going directly to the countries you are visiting and helping the people in Laos and Vietnam.
We are committed to ecotourism and responsible tourism in Laos and actively seek to research and promote projects that will benefit the local community and environment, as well as being a thoroughly enjoyable experience for you.
We also aim to encourage tourism throughout Laos, particularly in poor rural areas, and ensure that it is the local villagers that benefit every time. We have a strong desire to protect the local environment and therefore encourage tours around respected eco lodges with strong environmental policies as much as possible, and also educate our guides and staff on the importance of being environmentally friendly, both in the office and for the guides, on the ground. Within our offices in Laos we work to a ‘paperless desk’ policy where possible and only use recycled paper if required. For this trip, as we are visiting a lot of remote villages, we recommend a visit to the ‘Big Brother Mouse’ shop, a Lao owned project that publishes books designed to make reading fun for Lao children. We as a company support this project, and have funded the publication of one of their books. Once you have purchased these books, they can be distributed amongst the many villages on the way.
Laos holds the unwanted title of ‘the most heavily bombed country on the Earth’ and for this reason we support and encourage a visit to the MAG (Mines Advisory Group) Exhibition Centre in Phonsavan. This project highlights the good work that MAG have done, and continue to do in Laos, clearing mines in poor rural areas. Contributions to this project can be made if you so wish.
From an environmental perspective, our safari camping adventure at Vieng Xai follows a strict policy. We use specially imported environmental toilets and solar heated hot showers which help to maintain our ‘leave no trace’ policy. The local community is also supported as a percentage of this excursion goes directly back to the local villagers.
In a similar vein, the accommodation at Mai Chau Lodge follows sustainable tourism guidelines in the running of the lodge, this includes training and education of local people – offering hospitality and trade skills to the local community and ensuring that 100% of the staff employed at the lodge are local. The lodge also benefits the environment by planting native trees in and around Mai Chau.
We invite every traveller who books a holiday via us to send in a review. Because we don't run the holidays they're completely independent and unedited... remember to read between the lines though, as two people on the same holiday can have different views!
