Annapurna Circuit trek in Nepal
How this holiday makes a difference
Environment
Drinking water: The most common use of drinking water by trekkers are plastic bottled mineral waters. Our guides are well trained to keep reminding the trekkers to reuse these plastic bottles as much as possible. If possible our guides even encourage the trekkers to use iodine tablets to purify the water instead of buying mineral waters. This not only saves money of the trekkers but also saves the local environment being polluted by additional plastic bottles.
Clean Drinking Water Supply Project: Some rural areas in the Chitwan and Annapurna trekking regions were found to be lacking in clean drinking water supply due to the drying up of underground water sources and streams. Untimely rains and lack of funds with the local village development committees had further aggravated the problem as a result of which, the locals as well as private and public organizations were facing a lot of problems. As a step towards resolving the water crisis, we sponsored supply of clean drinking water to local primary schools in Chitwan and on the Annapurna trekking route.
Conservation Area: The Annapurna circuit trek is within the Annapurna Conservation Area Project. All trekkers has to obtain permits to trek in this region and the cash obtained by issuing the permits are used to develop the local areas by the Government.
Community
Regarding trekking guides: All our trekking guides are experienced trekkers and are from local villages all around Nepal. They can speak good English and we have trained them to give good services to our clients. Most of all we have trained them about being responsible while handling treks and expeditions. We have also provided first aid training to our guides.
Teahouses: While trekking all lodges used on the route are owned by local people of the region. Mostly while choosing the teahouse, we keep in mind that the teahouses meets the requirements of our clients in terms of good and decent rooms. Most of the teahouses along the trekking routes use firewood to cook and give hot showers to the trekkers. But as much as possible we try to use the teahouse where uses of firewood is non existence or very minimum. Sometimes in remote areas, firewood is the only option and we have no choice. In Annapurna Circuit trek, now a days there are many teahouses or lodges depending upon Solar power for electricity and hot water.
Meals: Meals are not included in our package but when ordering meals, guides make sure that clients are ordering much of green vegetables than tinned foods. The vegetables are fresh grown in the area and gives benefit to the local farmers.
