Responsible tourism: Best of Cambodia holiday with Battambang

Environment

LOCAL OFFICES IN CAMBODIA:

Unlike many tour operators, we have offices in Cambodia (Siem Reap and Phnom Penh). Our direct presence in Cambodia means that we are much better able to control the content of our itineraries and the style of our Small Group Journey and tailor-made travel arrangements. In short, our offices in Cambodia give us leverage in implementing our responsible travel policy.

ARCHAEOLOGY:

Our most popular Cambodia journey combines some of her best-kept secrets with the highlights including the temples of Angkor. Here we have facilitated a very significant donation to the World Monument Fund in Cambodia, a not-for-profit organisation dedicated to the maintenance of a select number of archaeologically precious temples in Angkor.

CARBON OFFSET:

We now offer carbon offset on 12 of our best-selling journeys in Asia, including three in Cambodia. With this program we will offset the carbon emissions for every passenger on every departure.

TRANSPORT:

On this journey we small and efficient modern busses. For shorter journeys like through the temples of Angkor we uses tuk-tuk's and on tonle Sap lake, small boats. Using these methods means we're less impactful of the local enviroment and cut the need to use regional flights.

DINING OUT:

apart from breakfast, most meals on our Cambodia tours are not included. With meals costing between $5 to $15 dining out is inexpensive and a fantastic insight into Khmer culture. Our local guides and tour leaders can take you to smaller family-owned or charity run restaurants. This is a great way for travellers to experience authentic Khmer cuisine and support local business in Cambodia.

Where possible we also work with our local partners. In Cambodia we have long worked with Romdeng restaurant. As a training restaurant they help underprivileged youngsters from across Cambodia gain essential skills in hospitality. They also serve some of the finest food and drinks in Cambodia. Their cocktails are a delight and their desserts are especially good!

LOCAL OFFICES IN CAMBODIA:

Unlike many tour operators, we have offices in Cambodia (Siem Reap and Phnom Penh). Our direct presence in Cambodia means that we are able to recruit and train our own local staff, from guides to accountants. Ensuring the continued development and well-being of our colleagues in Cambodia is paramount.

CHILDSAFE NETWORK

Our Cambodia journeys visit the ChildSafe Centre in Phnom Penh, dedicated to the elimination of child exploitation, and travellers receive a useful guide on how to help protect children in Cambodia. They also provide an overview of the issues confronting Cambodia, what they do to help and what the future holds for Cambodia's young people. They've recently produced some insightful research around orphanage tourism in Cambodia and what can be done to prevent it.

ANGKOR HOSPITAL FOR CHILDREN

Over a number of years, we have paid for the training and employment of a nurse at this Siem Reap hospital, which provides healthcare to needy children, with a focus on primary intervention and on the training of local healthcare workers. We are currently sponsoring nurse Soy and we regularly hold fundraisers.
