Wildlife specialist

This tour operator is Britain’s leading wildlife holiday specialist, offering classic tailor-made and small group holidays worldwide from tiger-viewing and bear-watching to wildlife cruising and African safaris. Established 18 years ago, we use only the best guides, stay in hand-picked lodges and properties and offer ultimate flexibility.

How this holiday makes a difference

Environment

The camps that are owned by our local agent – Ishasha and Buhoma - are all run in a sustainable manner, with particular emphasis on the use of solar lighting, proper waste disposal, water conservation and non-pollution of water resources and areas. The others are chosen for their adherence to environmental principles.

Ngamba Island is home to orphaned chimpanzees, rescued from poachers, who have no hope of returning to life in the wild. Managed by the Chimpanzees Sanctuary and Wildlife Conservation Trust, which is a combination of six international conservation organisations. Apart from providing a safe refuge for the chimpanzees, the aim of the sanctuary is to educate visitors and local communities about this most remarkable of species and how to conserve their habitat. We have included an overnight stay here as this is the best way to learn more about the sanctuary’s aims and spend more time with the chimps.

Community

We work with a company that’s wholly African owned, with staff that have a range of benefits to help them in life and work (basics that we take for granted are not the norm in Africa). These benefits include promotion opportunities, staff training, above average industry wages, maternity leave and safe working hours and holiday time.

The guides we use are all from Uganda, providing local employment and so you can gain an appreciation of the Ugandan culture, without making an unwelcome impact on the area you’re travelling through.

The supplies on this trip will be bought from local suppliers, according to the area you’re travelling through – this applies to where we buy fresh fruit and bread, to spare parts for vehicles and supporting local restaurants and bars after your safari.

There are also a number of local projects supported on this trip, including for grass roots projects such as local lunches made by the women’s group at Ngamba Island.

Holiday Reviews

We invite every traveller who books a holiday via us to send in a review. Because we don't run the holidays they're completely independent and unedited... remember to read between the lines though, as two people on the same holiday can have different views!
