How this holiday makes a difference
Environment
Our Tanzania honeymoon ensures that travellers become acutely aware of the importance of conservation and also become ambassadors for the continual protection of wildlife and wilderness the world over. The pristine game parks of Tanzania are protected as a National Parks and Reserves for good reason - they are home to a vast array of unique and endemic wildlife. To maintain the unique ecosystem of the Ngorongoro Crater, tourism into the Crater is tightly controlled, with a limited time being allowed by each vehicle and visitors forced to follow strict guidelines. The accommodation we use here is the Crater Forest Tented Camp.
The land immediately surrounding the camp is being restored to some of its natural forest habitat, with the camp management overseeing the conversion from crop cultivation to regeneration of indigenous groundcover, helping the change along by reintroducing around the lodge trees and shrubs natural to the area. At Ruaha Hilltop Lodge the chefs use fresh products from the local area.
Community
The lodge also helps local people, providing and funding to expand a village school and other activities. It actively supports a young single mothers association in Iringa, buying their craft products and helping to market them through its own Curio Shop.
By only employing staff born and bred in Tanzania, this operator is supporting the local economies. This benefits everyone: greater opportunities and economic benefits for local communities, and travellers get more under the skin of the country they visit. Seeing the country through the eyes of those who call it home is one of the main joys of travelling. Our guides have a passion for their history and landscapes, and give you the insights and experience of the heritage and culture that only locals can. Throughout Africa, we use locally-owned transport, family-run accommodation and local restaurants. Again, this both benefits local communities and makes for better travelling experiences, helping you get closer to different cultures. Through offering employment and steady revenue, tourism can ultimately make a real positive difference to local communities.
