Travelling with a local operator
This holiday is operated by a company based in the holiday destination and they will be able to provide expert local knowledge. They will be able to tailor make your holiday to suit your requirements not only concerning the dates of travel but also typically the standard of accommodation, and thus price. It is rare for local operators to be able to help with the booking of your flights.

How this holiday makes a difference

Environment

Booking this tour without luggage transfer is a more eco-friendly way of seeing this part of the Italian countryside. Our rental policy offers plenty of solutions from hiking poles to backpacks and GPS. For those particularly interested in our stunning natural reserves and national parks we can set up custom tours for them.

We encourage our guests to minimize waste and to recycle. We only use recycled paper in our office, the printed material is reduced to the minimum and we often ask for the non-used material back. We have a water saving sink and use low consumption light bulbs. Our guides follow the rule to leave every place they pass cleaner than before. On both guided and self guided tours we encourage our guests to do the same.

We run self led tours typically from 2 to 6 people and the group tours have an average of 14 guests. Everywhere we go we have contact with local people, to have a chat with and explain how life in the area is.

Community

This self guided tour has been carefully designed with the important support of local licensed guides (trained for Environmental Education Project), local workers and drivers. The guiding always covers naturalistic aspects together with arts, history and local everyday life. As a priority, our accommodations are comfortable and friendly family run hotels, B&Bs and locandas, often located within historic centres or charming agriturismos with environmental policies such as water and energy saving.

This walking tour may be also an opportunity to try local organic food and forest products like truffles, and visit organic agricultural estates and Chianina cow farms.

Tuscany and Marche self guided walking holiday, Italy

Reviewed 26 Nov 2011 by Virginia Whitener3 star rating

1. What was the most memorable or exciting part of your holiday?

San Leo was charming. Walking across the Monte Carpegna towards Frontino was beautiful open country.

2. What tips would you give other travellers booking this holiday?

Make sure the woods are open for Sasso di Simone. It was closed with the Army shooting throughout the park and having military exercises when we arrived at the edge. Also all restaurants in Montecopiolo as well as at Parco del lago were closed the night we were there.

3. Did you feel that your holiday benefited local people, and minimized impacts on the environment?

The local people were happy to receive us although many places, restaurants were closed that late in the season. Walking has less impact than other modes of travel, but our overall impact I would say is unknown.

4. Finally, how would you rate your holiday overall?

6 out of 10 due to problems encountered.

Holiday Reviews

We invite every traveller who books a holiday via us to send in a review. Because we don't run the holidays they're completely independent and unedited... remember to read between the lines though, as two people on the same holiday can have different views!
