Volunteer travel - what's it all about?
Are you looking for an adventurous trip with a purpose, or on a gap year or career break? If you want to make a difference in some of the world’s most important conservation areas - and in community projects - then volunteer trips are for you! Volunteers tend to have a sense of adventure, and come from a range of different backgrounds and from all over the world.
Edward Abbey said 'sentiment without action is the ruin of the soul'.

How this holiday makes a difference

Our Volunteer Projects
We work directly with local NGOs and Community based organisations, taking great care to select the organisations we partner with always making sure there is a real need for volunteers and the work that volunteers do will make a difference to the local community.

We work hard with the selected local partner organisations to develop roles for the volunteers focusing on areas where real difference can be to help the organisations meet their objectives. Through a dedicated team of local managers we constantly monitor the progress that is made through the volunteer programme and constantly review the thrust of our volunteer programmes to help local communities

Travelling to Teach Projects in India are in Darjeeling and Bangalore
Pre-departure briefings and continuous support by the locally based manager helps with preparation and enables volunteers to maximise their contribution to the school and community, as well as their own enjoyment. The projects are well organised so that volunteers can make a good contribution in a relatively short amount of time.

The Schools are carefully selected from remote and impoverished areas where resources for teachers and materials are limited so your contribution can make a large noticeable difference. We will match your skills to a school that most needs your help.

Local teachers have a great struggle to work within the limited facilities and overcrowded classrooms. Volunteer Teachers also work directly with local teachers to assist them in their development and skills techniques. They have limited access to new ideas and developments locally, so the sharing of your enthusiasm ideas and knowledge can really help to improve their skills and confidence.

The children in the schools we use are keen to learn new skills and Travelling to Teach volunteers will teach them in subjects of English, Maths, Sciences, arts or drama. The skills you bring can make a difference to their lives and chance of future employment. A visitor from overseas will cause great excitement in the classroom and help motivate their continued learning.

You may wish to continue the link with your project school and your own school by providing a “twin” arrangement with the two schools and future support to them.

You stay in Home stays which directly supports families in the region providing them with a business and an income. Your home stay will be close by to your project so you will either walk or use local transport to travel. Living with a family also allows you to integrate fully within the community for a rich experience of local life. Your use of local facilities, shops, restaurants etc will bring income to local businesses.

Foundation:
We have our own foundation, a registered charity, which our travellers and volunteers can join us in supporting.

Aims of the foundation are:
The advancement of education, the relief of poverty and sickness and the preservation and protection of good health through the provision of financial assistance, volunteers and such other forms of support as the council members may from time to time determine.

The Foundation supports local communities by:

- Making grants to individuals

- Making grants to organisations

- Providing other finance

- Providing human resources

- Providing buildings / facilities / open space

Holiday Reviews

We invite every traveller who books a holiday via us to send in a review. Because we don't run the holidays they're completely independent and unedited... remember to read between the lines though, as two people on the same holiday can have different views!
