How Ardeche family activity holiday in France makes a difference

Environment

Another of our concerns is leaving no trace – from using planned riding routes to ensure that our adventures will not have a negative impact on the physical environment to fastidiously clearing up after all activities and excursions. By planning our routes, sticking to established trails and taking all of our waste away with us we can ensure that the impact of our presence is nominal. We encourage and facilitate the recycling or paper, glass and plastics.

We encourage the use of our minibus vehicles during holidays so that our affect on road traffic and pollution is reduced. We also strongly recommend the much greener train option to travel here; there is a direct service from London to Avignon on a Saturday and a one-stop service on all other days. We are committed to responsible travel and request feedback from our guests in order to continually improve our service and performance.

Community

One of our primary focuses within the realms of responsible travel is giving back to the local community; we aim to use 100% locally owned businesses for all of our external requirements. These include all of our activity suppliers for canoe rental, bike hire, horse riding, high roping, etc.

Our short breaks have many options for accommodation and activities. Each external supplier that we use for these is a locally run business and contributes directly to the town. Our walks and sightseeing trips are planned in order to coincide with local markets and points of historical interest.

Local economy is well supported in France and even chain supermarkets supply local crop – from wine to fresh goods like eggs and fruit & vegetables, produce is placed into a cooperative; so by shopping in town clients will be supporting the community. We encourage guests to visit the markets for a chance to immerse themselves in French culture and to meet the local producers.

We do this not only because it is good for the region economically but because we feel that is will give the local population a chance to represent itself to visitors.

1. What was the most memorable or exciting part of your holiday?

Seeing my children develop new skills and challenging skills in a safe environment.

Be zen about the heat it is very hot in Ardesh in the summer.

3. Did you feel that your holiday benefited local people, reduced environmental impacts or supported conservation?

We had to buy our own food, so used all the local supermarkets. Being in constant contact with nature realized the necessity of preserving it.

4. Finally, how would you rate your holiday overall?

Excellent, fabulously team, very competent but safety aware.

1. What was the most memorable or exciting part of your holiday?

The instructors, the professionalism and the enthusiasm they all put in really made this a holiday to remember. From myself as an unfit 40 year old down to my 12 year old son we were looked after and made to feel welcome. All the activities were conducted with the highest safety standards. What a fabulous group of people who did their best to ensure my family had the best adventure ever!

2. What tips would you give other travellers booking this holiday?

Please do not hesitate to book with this company. The personal touch is there and they look after all individuals on the trip. The instructors even worked hard to get a disabled lad to the top of each rock jump on the Ardeche so he would not miss out. Please if you want an active holiday, sun, a great laugh and an experience that will bring your family together look no further than this company.

3. Did you feel that your holiday benefited local people, reduced environmental impacts or supported conservation?

Definitely, highly professional, expert instructors in their own fields who clearly cared about the surroundings and their activity.

4. Finally, how would you rate your holiday overall?

5 stars, listen, I never fill in feedback forms but this company has given my family the best holiday ever and basically we are all looking to go again. Well done everyone involved!

1. What was the most memorable or exciting part of your holiday?

Travelling through the more remote and spectacular lower stages of the Gorge. The geography is fantastic and beautiful.

2. What tips would you give other travellers booking this holiday?

Go with a guided tour. You will see a lot more as they know where and what to look for (for example, there was a cave in the side of the Gorge with an underwater entrance that you just could not find unless you knew it was there). Apart from the fact that they will do a lot of the support work you and you will be safer you will just plain have more fun with people who know what they are doing and have a lot to teach you about kayaking and the Gorge.

3. Did you feel that your holiday benefited local people, reduced environmental impacts or supported conservation?

The tour used all local services and support (they hire local kayaks rather than bringing their own in, for example).

4. Finally, how would you rate your holiday overall?

Definitely the highlight of our two weeks in the Ardeche. A good thing for families too as it is exciting without being too arduous for the younger or older members. Yes you do go down rapids but they are fierce ones.

1. What was the most memorable or exciting part of your holiday?

Kayaking down the beautiful Ardeche gorge.....capsizing our boat and being rescued by a naked man in the naturist section of the river.....kids having a brilliant time jumping from high rocks into the river.....abseiling into a cave.....being part of a really friendly group, having drinks together in the bar.

2. What tips would you give other travellers booking this holiday?

It's a pretty non-stop holiday - don't expect lots of free time. If you like being active and taking part in well-organised activities then it's great.

3. Did you feel that your holiday benefited local people, reduced environmental impacts or supported conservation?

4. Finally, how would you rate your holiday overall?

I had never been on an activity holiday before, or done much kayaking before, and just before we went I was wondering what on earth I had let myself in for. But it was amazing! My teenagers (15 and 13) had the most wonderful time and so did I. The activities were well organised and the instructors were just wonderful, can't speak highly enough of them. I have no hesitation in recommending this holiday to anyone who likes to be active and is up for a bit of an adventure. I came back feeling completely re-energised.
