How this holiday makes a difference

Environment

Shark Bay is Western Australia's first World Heritage Area and is one of only 16 sites on earth to meet all 4 natural criteria for listing. Established in 1992, Monkey Mia is the number one behavioural research site in the world for bottlenose dolphins and tiger sharks. The interaction between visitors and the dolphins at Monkey Mia is carefully supervised by staff. Verbal instructions and signage around the area ensure that visitors do not disturb the dolphins and have any negative impact on their presence.

A charge is made on arrival by DEC (The Department of Environment and Conservation) for entry into the Monkey Mia Reserve. This fee is paid direct to DEC for the continual care, welfare, management and research of the Monkey Mia dolphins. Monkey Mia Dolphin Resort’s are committed to responsible tourism practices, including treating waste water, carefully monitoring the use of all chemical substances, using only bio-degradable cleaners and solvents, and using only organic fertilisers on the grounds alleviating any risk of contamination of the bay’s pristine waters.

We are proud to hold the AITO 3-star Responsible Travel accreditation recognising our commitment to sustainable tourism. We support a number of extremely worthwhile organisations and causes, including Friends of Scott Polar Research Institute (SPRI) at the University of Cambridge. Their pioneering research investigates social and environmental issues in the Arctic and Antarctic, such as global warming. Back home we have an active environmental policy in our office including recycling bins throughout; printing our brochures on FSC accredited paper from sustainable forests; systems to encourage a paperless office; and movement sensor lights which use the latest energy-saving long-life elements.

Community

We are dedicated to ensuring that local communities and the environment are treated with the utmost care and respect by visitors. All the places visited on this tour benefit from the positive effects of tourism; economic benefits for local businesses and enterprises and employment for residents, thus contributing to the overall economic growth of each region. We support local communities by using locally owned and run hotels, activity operators and guides, and encouraging guests to visit local attractions, eat in local restaurants and buy local produce and crafts.

Holiday Reviews

We invite every traveller who books a holiday via us to send in a review. Because we don't run the holidays they're completely independent and unedited... remember to read between the lines though, as two people on the same holiday can have different views!
