The lodge Atacama is the first in Chile to have signed an agreement with a British company to commit to offset 100% of its carbon emissions, and is taking steps towards being completely energy sufficient by installing solar powered electricity.
All of your hotels have less than 10 rooms, greatly minimising their environmental impact on the surrounding region in every way. All of the food in the Lake District is sourced freshly from local suppliers, many of the vegetables are grown on site in the organic garden.
Part of the cost of your holiday goes towards the planting of 20 hard wood trees in the Mata Atlantica, under the guidance of R.E.G.U.A. (Reserva Ecologica de Guapi Assu) who protect one of the last stands of primary tropical rainforest left in the severely depleted Atlantic Rainforest in Brazil, also helping to offset the carbon footprint of the long haul air travel.
Community
Your lodge in Atacama was constructed entirely with materials from the local area, using the same techniques as those used in the Altiplano highlands for thousands of years. The Hotel was built with the assistance of local workers who contributed their knowledge that has been passed on for many generations. They also organise regular specific events promoting cultural, artistic and economic development within the local communities.
All of the excursions both in Atacama and the Lake District were designed in cooperation with local inhabitants, who are the most familiar with the many hidden secrets of the areas. Excursions never include more than 4 people, minimizing the impact on the environment lifestyles of nearby populations. All guides are employed from the local community and given free training, for exactly the reason that they are the best equipped to truly help guests make the most out of their stays.
