Responsible tourism

Responsible tourism: Burgundy self guided walking holidays, France

On September 2007 the European Commission approved an operational programme for the Burgundy region in France for 2007-2013. Also, Burgundy wants to promote energy efficiency and renewable energies and safeguard water resources and water quality, essential for the tourism and the wine’s production. The region will have to apply a number of key levers, like the structuring of tourism. Through the vineyards and it gastronomy, the Burgundy keep a great interest for the sustainable development and also purpose the best wines and meats to the tourists.

We avail of a Travellers Code of Conduct and all our documents are printed on recycled paper. Our staffs also follow an Environmental policy (e.g: only using hard copies when necessary or switching off the lights where the areas are not in used.)

Last but not least, as hikers by passion, we have a strong ethic about respecting the places we go to and their environment, either for business or personally (e.g: not leaving any rubbish behind us during a day walk or using reusable water containers), and we encourage our guests to act responsibly while traveling and to respect the green landscapes and the farming products.

We are committed to work with local hotels and restaurants only. Actually, we personally know each person we deal with as we go on ground to tailor make these holidays for you.

Through it history with the Duchy of Burgundy or it cultural heritage with the wines and the medieval hospital (les Hospice de Beaune), Burgundy offers a large and various destination for the tourists. As we work with local and family run hotels and guesthouses, you will also get a chance to interact with local people, most of them being from the region for generations and keen to share information about their land. A land of tradition which still hosts many typical houses (historical building) and medieval churches, as well as a region open to tourism with history, it gastronomy and the situation near from Paris.

The cuisine of Burgundy is known for its richness, due in large part to two factors: the region's heavy red wines and its possession of one of the world's finest breeds of beef cattle, the “Charolais”, but should expect some nice meat or escargots which will be served with wine.

Every day, your luggage will be brought from hotel to hotel by our local transporter, who knows the area better than anybody else and will ensure your bags are transferred in a professional and timely manner. By dealing directly with local professionals, we also ensure them maximum benefits.
