A taste of volunteering trip - what's it all about?
This type of trip is ideal for people who are unable to take very long periods off work but who are interested in volunteering to work with communities in need, or in wildlife conservation. These shorter trips combine volunteering with an opportunity to see the main sights in destinations.

How this holiday makes a difference

Community
This tour supports local community outcomes by:
- Supporting local community conservation groups to achieve important regional conservation outcomes
- Providing opportunities for travellers to work alongside community groups to learn and personally contribute something back to local conservation efforts
- Sourcing local produce
- Employing local guides, using local accommodation and suppliers
- Profit return into community conservation projects.
- Engaging community members in the development and execution of conservation projects.

Environment
During this experience we assist local community groups to achieve important regional conservation outcomes in the Otway region. Conservation activities range from season to season and typically involve indigenous vegetation restoration such as tree planting, seeding and removal of invasive weeds to improve habitat for wildlife, and making fire breaks to protect large pockets of biodiversity in the event of fires. The time spent over the two days participating in conservation activities is approximately three hours each day. These conservation activities aim to restore critical vegetation and improve habitat for some of the regions most important and unique native Australian animals.

Accommodation used has been built with the highest principles of sustainability. Architect designed, it features passive solar design and cross ventilation to reduce the need for power generated cooling and heating; spring and rain water are harvested on-site; solar powered hot water; a grey water system (all soaps and shampoos supplied are naturally organic) and interior fabrics are made from hemp and vegetable based dyes. Group sizes are kept to a maximum of 10 people to ensure a quality experience and minimal environmental impact.

This Advanced Eco Certified tour is provided by Australia’s largest not for profit, community based conservation organisation and any profits from these trips are donated back to the conservation projects of the area. This trip is also supporting native tree planting that will offset your travel for the tour. Emissions have been calculated using the formulas found on the Australian Government - Department of the Environment. The assessment of the carbon produced will only include those actions directly caused by the trip.

Holiday Reviews

We invite every traveller who books a holiday via us to send in a review. Because we don't run the holidays they're completely independent and unedited... remember to read between the lines though, as two people on the same holiday can have different views!
