How this holiday makes a difference

Environment

The Adventure Journey
- We travel in small groups to minimise our impact on the environment and local culture.
- This trip is operated in country by a Peruvian based company entirely run by indigenous people so it provides employment for local people and supports its own local projects.
- Accommodation is in small locally owned guesthouses.
- The trek we operate is on a less known route than the famous Inca Trail which helps the environment by spreading visitors around a wider area.
- All of our guides, chefs and porters are from local communities and speak the language of the Incas, Quechua.
- Each guide, chef and porter treats the trails with care, leaving no garbage on the trail. At the start of the trip, your guide will explain ways to keep the trail clean. For example, at the start of the Inca Trail, locals sell wooden walking sticks. We do not recommend wooden sticks because they have caused damage to the flora in the area and have also chipped the stones. We recommend that you use aluminum ones with protective covers on the point for environmental reasons.
- The porters we use are well treated in terms of loads they carry and pay they receive. They are provided with appropriate clothing for the trek.
- We encourage clients to use boiled water rather than using bottled water.

Community

The Project
For your project work you will help in a village school or local community project. Our local partners have been helping in the community from which they hail since the company’s inception. The team were born in the small Andean community of Huayacohca and they continue to fight for a better life for the Andean people. Together we strive for Andean people to regain their strong sense of identity, including language, religion and traditions that people have been steadily losing since the conquest.

You will assist where the need is most felt and leave a positive mark behind from your visit. Current local projects are building a local library, starting a market where fair prices are paid, providing suitable washing stations for porters to use following their trek and community tourism lodges in small villages where local people can interact with visitors and benefit from tourism.

Our Foundation
We have our own foundation, a registered charity, which our travellers and volunteers can join us in supporting. Aims of the foundation are; the advancement of education, the relief of poverty and sickness and the preservation and protection of good health through the provision of financial assistance, volunteers and such other forms of support as the council members may from time to time determine.

50% of your programme fee, after the costs of flights and transfers, goes directly to the foundation!

Holiday Reviews

We invite every traveller who books a holiday via us to send in a review. Because we don't run the holidays they're completely independent and unedited... remember to read between the lines though, as two people on the same holiday can have different views!
